Sebastiano Nutarelli

Introduction

Sebastiano Nutarelli studied ICT & digital communication as multimedia systems designer and worked as Web Accessibility Engineer for the 2nd most important Italian ICT company within the HQ of Digital Communication until 2007. He also became one of the Italian members of the W3C WCAG 2.0 working group, the international institution based in the U.S. that sets the web guidelines.

At 27 years old, at the peak of his professional and sports career, his life took a complete U-turn due to a serious knee injury. He was forced to stop any activity for more than 4 years and dedicate all his efforts on the recovery, with many surgeries and daily PT, even moving to the U.S for more than 1 year and a half becoming a patient of top notch Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Rehabilitation Centers. Through this extended U.S stay, he had the opportunity to directly experience the marked differences between the European and the U.S clinical-rehabilitative approaches, doing such thing with worldwide renowned surgeons and PTs that later became mentors changing his perspective.

Once back on his feet he enrolled for a 4 years BSc in Phisiotherapy in Lugano, Switzerland, including a PT and orthopaedic surgical observership at Cincinnati SportsMedicine & Orthopaedic Center (Cincinnati, OH – USA) and a Clinical Rotation at TIRR Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center (Houston, TX – USA), accomplishing it with the highest grade point average (GPA) of his course.

He then completed Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Sports Physiotherapy at SUPSI University (Lugano, Switzerland), the MET Medical Exercise Therapy Diploma (Holten Institute, Sweden) and became a certified Sportsmetrics™ instructor. He’s completing a Master degree in Biomechanics at San Raffaele University (Rome, Italy), attending Postgraduate Health Research studies at the University of Oxford (UK), a Maitland Manual Therapy certification and developing his own PhD project,

Since 2015 he joins several surgical teams observing in the O.R. in Italy, Switzerland and U.S.

Sebastiano has been the co-founder and President of the non-profit company NFC (CE courses for PTs & MDs in Italy) in which he consecutively translated from English to Italian almost all the courses. In 2017 he co-founded NOVAVIA Project, a company that acts in the field of professional Evidence-Based education – he takes care of the Educational Development & Public Relations, acts as interpreter from English to Italian in the majority of the courses and assists some of the international experts during the teaching process.

He cooperates with foreign institutions and experts as italian translator of protocols and rehabilitation guidelines and scientific manuals. From February 2018 to January 2019 has been Professor on contract in the BSc of Physioterapy at L.U.de.S. Lugano Campus, Switzerland (Semmelweis University) – teaching “Kinesiology of the upper and lower limbs” & “Evidence-Based Physioterapy in Orthopaedics 2” and from February 2019 started being a lecturer at ‘Sapienza’ Università di Roma, Italy – teaching “Evidence-Based Practice & Orthopaedic & Sports Evidence-Based rehabilitation”

Sebastiano also is a member of the Clinical Advisory Board of KNEEguru (knee rehabilitation), partner of the European Society for Shoulder & Elbow Rehabilitation (EUSSER), International Partner of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Swiss Physical Therapy Association (Physioswiss) member and Swiss Sports Physiotherapy Association (Sportfisio) member.

Sebastiano co-founded the physical therapy center Sports Rehab Lugano located in Lugano, Switzerland plus works at the FisioSport Minusio PT center and at his branch  c/o Centro Cantonale di Medicina dello Sport (CCMS) hosted within the National Training Center in Tenero. He also works with the Swiss National Swimming Team (Swiss Swimming) as physical therapist of the Elite, Youth & Juniors swimmers.

Sebastiano is a strong supporter of the Evidence-Based Practice in rehabilitation.
