Marco Delcogliano


Marco was born in Rome on October 18th 1978, married to Ludovica, father of two children (Antonio and Giulio). He completed his medicine degree in October 2003 with a score of 110/110 cum laude at the Catholic University of Rome. Then he completed his specialty in Orthopedics and Traumatology with a score of 70/70 and honors in November 2009 at the University of Bologna and the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute. He received his FMH recognition in Surgery, Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Locomotor System in April 2015 in Switzerland.

From 2004 to 2009 during his specialty he worked as assistant in the II Orthopedic and Traumatology Clinic directed by Prof. M. Marcacci, with particular interest in arthroscopic, reconstructive and prosthetic knee surgery. In 2008-2009 he carried out a fellowship in Sport Medicine at the Santa Monica Orthopedic Group under the supervision of Prof. Bert Mandelbaum, Santa Monica LA, USA. From January 2010 to January 2012 he was second level Medical Director (Head of Clinic) in the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department of the San Carlo IDI Hospital in Rome with particular focus on prosthetic and reconstructive surgery of the knee and hip. In January 2012, he moved to the University Hospital of Parma in the Orthopedics Division with the role of Head of the Simple Shoulder Surgery Unit under the supervision of Dr. Alex Castagna of the Humanitas Clinical Institute in Milan. In February 2014 he returned to Rome where he worked as a freelancer dealing with knee surgery. Since June 2015, he has been hired at the Regional Hospital of Lugano as Head of Clinic for the Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology service of the musculoskeletal system. Since August 2019 he is Head of the Service of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology of the musculoskeletal system at the Regional Hospital of Lugano. In May 2020 he has been nominated Free Lecturer (PD) in the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences by the University of Italian Switzerland (USI). Since July 2020 he is clinical manager of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Unit of the San Giovanni Hospital in Bellinzona. He deals with Traumatology and Orthopedics with particular interest in the treatment of pathologies of the Hip, Knee and Sports Traumatology. He focused his studies and his clinical practice in the treatment of cartilage pathologies and ligament injuries.

From 2004 to 2009 he worked as a researcher in the biomechanics laboratory directed by Prof. M. Marcacci taking part in numerous national and European research projects. In particular he has been involved in studies on cartilage regeneration. Since 2009 he continued his clinical research with particular attention to regenerative knee, cartilage and ligament surgery and to shoulder and knee replacement. He published and took part in more than 50 national and international scientific works. In 2010 he was the winner of the Most Cited Article award for the article: “Arthroscopic Second Generation Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation Compared With Microfracture for Chondral Lesions of the Knee Prospective Nonrandomized Study at 5 Years published in American Journal Of Sports Medicine”.
