Course description
Originally studied to optimize the physical training for the astronauts, the Isoinertial training spread around the sports world as an option to train strength and to improve prevention and rehabilitation after some injuries. Consequently, it has been applied in other fields, and several clinical trials have been conducted, in order to publish some scientific research about the effects and clinical implications of this method.
The isoinertial training allows to work both in the concentric phase (muscle shortening) and in the eccentric phase (muscle lengthening) and it requires more motor coordination than other training methods. In the Isoinertial training the resistance is proportional to the strength generated by the athlete, so the more is the power applied during the concentric phase, the more energy will be returned in the eccentric phase.
This course will be carried out intensively in a single day, it allows the participant to understand and apply the theoretical concepts at the basis of this method directly on the field. During the course day, you will be able to try personally different isoinertial training machines. Participants will be experiencing specific exercises for strength and power training in the sports performance field, injury prevention and post-traumatic return to sport. After the theoretical introduction, in the practical sessions the following practical sessions will be addressed: specific exercises for the upper and lower limbs, core training, sport-specific movements application, post-activation potentiation effect (PAP). The course will allow participants to interact and discuss with the instructors who have direct experience in the application of the isoinertial method in their daily clinical practice.
Whether you are an athletic trainer or a physiotherapist that works for international athletes or for amateur, if you want to learn an innovative training technique, this course will help you make the most of an innovative and evidence based method to optimize the training program.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the scientific basis of the isoinertial method
- Know the physiological, functional, and structural benefits of this innovative method
- Understand the limits as well as the short- and long-term outcomes of isoinertial training
- Demonstrate the opportunity and need to implement this method in the training program of different sports
- Perform and have safely carried out some exercises on a device that requires an eccentric loading phase
- Understand the key principles for the administration of the correct workloads
- Know how to individualize a strength and power training program
- Know how to apply the isoinertial method to prevent injuries and implement sport performance
- Integrate isoinertial training into a return to sport program
Teaching Methods
The course is structured with a first theoretical introduction session after which there will be some practical sessions and workgroups.
Informed consent
The choice to try the exercises proposed in the practical sessions is completely up to the participants. However, since these activities includes physical fatigue (within the limits of individual abilities), all participants will be required to complete the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q), and to sign the informed consent.
The course attendance provides the opportunity to acquire Crediti Formativi Universitari (CFU) (the participant has to verify this possibility with his/her own university)
La frequenza al corso prevede la possibilità di acquisire Crediti Formativi Universitari (CFU) (previa verifica a carico del singolo partecipante con la propria istituzione universitaria)
